NTC JEAN NELSON WILL ASSUME A NEW ROLE AS COUNSELOR TO ADMIN.

FOR RELEASE: TUESDAY, JUNE 27, 1995

Administrator Carol M. Browner announced that effective July 5, EPA's General Counsel, Jean Nelson, will assume a new role as Counselor to the Administrator for special projects. Nelson's first project will be working on the Fourth United Nations Conference on

Women.

"Jean Nelson has been an extremely talented General Counsel who's provided excellent guidance to this agency and to me," Browner said. "Although I will miss the invaluable contributions she makes in her current role, some projects are of special importance to me and the Administration and demand the talent and full attention of someone of Jean's caliber. Such a project is the U.N. Conference on Women. I look forward to Jean's continued contributions in this new challenge."

Browner also announced that Jon Cannon, the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Administration and Resources Management (OARM), will become Acting General Counsel, and Sallyanne Harper, Cannon's present deputy, will become the acting head of OARM.
