PA WASTE DISPOSAL SCHEME LEADS TO MAIL FRAUD CONVICTION

WASTE DISPOSAL SCHEME LEADS TO MAIL FRAUD CONVICTION

On Nov. 13, Jane Frank Kresch and Susan Frank, both of New York City's Frank family, which has been called "New York City's First Family of Water Pollution," were sentenced for their convictions on charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, a scheme that involved the illegal disposal of waste at sea. They were convicted of sending fraudulent documents to several New Jersey communities, claiming that waste which they had contracted to remove was being legally disposed of at the "106 Mile Dump Site" in the Atlantic Ocean. In reality, it was being dumped in New York Harbor. Jane Frank Kresch was sentenced to serve one year and one day in prison, two years probation, and pay a $10,000 fine. Susan Frank was sentenced to eight months home detention, two years probation and a $10,000 fine. The case was investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI.
