PA EPA ISSUES NOTICE FOR NEW MARINE ENGINES

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1996

EPA ISSUES NOTICE FOR NEW MARINE ENGINES

EPA published a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking for exhaust emission standards for new marine engines to address comments received on the original program proposed in November 1994. The Agency will accept additional public comment on the supplemental notice for 30 days from the Federal Register publication date. EPA is proposing to streamline the certification and enforcement provisions for marine engine manufacturers while maintaining the emission reductions proposed in the 1994 notice. The supplemental notice also proposes an in-use averaging, banking, and trading program and addresses comments regarding consistency of the regulations with those for land-based non-road compression-ignition engines. The supplemental notice is currently available on the Technology Transfer Network (TTN) at 919-541-5742.
