PA EPA PUBLISHES FINAL GUIDELINES FOR REPRODUC. TOXICITY RISK

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1996

EPA PUBLISHES FINAL GUIDELINES FOR
REPRODUCTIVE TOXICITY RISK ASSESSMENT

EPA's final Guidelines for Reproductive Toxicity Risk Assessment are expected to be published in the Federal Register the week of Oct. 21. The guidelines, updated from 1994, are one part of the wider EPA effort to explicitly address particular health risks that children and other sensitive populations, such as women of childbearing age may face. By improving the quality and consistency of Agency risk assessments, EPA anticipates that the guidelines ultimately will contribute to risk management decisions that better protect public health. They will ensure a consistent approach to risk assessment throughout EPA and allow industry, environmental groups, academia and other regulatory agencies to better understand the Agency's approach to reproductive toxicity risk assessment. Paper copies of the guidelines are available at EPA's Air and Radiation Docket at 401 M St. S.W., Washington, D.C.; telephone 202-260-7549. Electronic copies will be available via Internet at http://www.epa.gov/ORD/WebPubs/repro/. For more information call Dr. Eric Clegg, EPA National Center for Environmental Assessment at 202-260-8914 or e-mail clegg.eric@epamail.epa.gov.
