PA EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES ON THE SUPERFUND NAT'L PRIOR. LIST

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1996

EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES ON THE
SUPERFUND NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST

EPA is proposing five new sites to the National Priorities List (NPL) and adding seven. The NPL informs the public of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites that warrant further investigation to determine if they pose risks to human health and the environment. Sites that are placed on the NPL are eligible for long-term "remedial action" financed under the Superfund Trust Fund. The proposed sites are: Brunswick Wood Preserving, Brunswick, Ga.; Grand Street Mercury, Hoboken, N.J.; Ross Metals Inc., Rossville, Tenn.; Oeser Co., Bellingham, Wash.; and Palermo Well Field Ground Water Contamination, Tumwater, Wash. The seven added sites are: MRI Corp., Tampa, Fla.; Stauffer Chemical Co., Tampa, Fla.; Madisonville Creosote Works, Madisonville, La.; Beede Waste Oil, Plaistow, N.H.; V&M/Albaladejo, Vega Baja, Puerto Rico; Shuron Inc., Barnwell, S.C.; and Sharon Steel Corp., Fairmont, W.Va. The NPL proposed sites will be published in the Federal Register Dec. 23. For copies of the notice, an updated NPL list or site descriptions, contact the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810.
