PA MANAGER OF SEATTLE COMPANY SENTENCED IN ASBESTOS CASE

MANAGER OF SEATTLE COMPANY SENTENCED IN ASBESTOS CASE

On Dec. 6, Robert Sacco, former Operations Manger for the Odom Corp. in Seattle, Wash., was sentenced to six months home detention, three years supervised probation and fined $3,000 for his felony conviction on charges that he violated the federal Clean Air Act. Sacco, who previously pleaded guilty, admitted that during February 1996, he directed Odom employees to remove asbestos from a Seattle building without complying with mandatory federal worker protection practices which include the wearing of respiratory equipment. Breathing asbestos fibers can cause a lung disease known as asbestosis and lung cancer. The case was investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division and local and state environmental enforcement authorities from the State of Washington.
