WASTEWISE PROGRAM HONORS PARTNERS ON OCT. 19

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, OCT. 13, 2000

WASTEWISE PROGRAM HONORS PARTNERS ON OCT. 19

EPA will honor partners that have achieved significant waste reduction results at the 2000 WasteWise Awards and Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Phoenix Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. EPA launched WasteWise in January 1994 as a voluntary partnership program to help businesses and institutions find practical methods for reducing municipal solid waste. In May 2000, WasteWise announced plans to integrate federal agencies into the program after successfully opening up to state, local and tribal government entities in 1997. By joining the program, WasteWise partners commit to implementing waste reduction activities of their choice in three program areas: waste prevention, recycling collection and buying or manufacturing recycled-content products. The 14 partners are: Eastman Kodak Co.; McDonalds; Motorola; Bass Pro Shops; Vicro Manufacturing; Bert Fish Medical Center; The Seydel Companies; U.S. Postal Service; Tennessee Department of Correction; Blue Lake Rancheria; Washoe County, Nevada; Seattle University; Alden Central School; and SST Trucking. For more information about the ceremony, call the WasteWise helpline at 800-372-9473. For information about the WasteWise program, visit: http://www.epa.gov/wastewise.
