PEST MANAGEMENT AND TOLERANCE REASSESSMENT
MEETING SET FOR OCT. 11-12



The EPA-USDA Committee to Advise on Reassessment and Transition (CARAT) will hold its second meeting on Oct. 11-12 at the Radisson Hotel Old Town, 901 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, Va. This committee was created to provide advice and counsel to the EPA Administrator and the Secretary of Agriculture regarding strategic approaches for pest management planning and tolerance reassessment for pesticides as required by the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). CARAT is guided by the principles set forth by the Vice President for EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to work together to ensure smooth implementation of FQPA through use of sound science, consultation with stakeholders, increased transparency and reasonable transition for agriculture. The CARAT meeting will be held on Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and on Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. An agenda and background materials are being developed and will be available by Oct. 6 at: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/carat. The meeting was also announced in a Federal Register Notice on Sept. 27. This notice is accessible at: http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr.
