OHIO COMPANY AND OWNER PLEAD GUILTYFOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, NOV. 9, 2000 RSV, Inc., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati to violating an EPA Clean Air Act administrative order. The company was ordered to stop demolition of the Federal Paperboard site in Steubenville, Ohio, until asbestos at the site could be professionally evaluated and safely removed. Robert S. Vukelic of Richmond, Ohio, owner of RSV, also pleaded guilty to charges that he illegally paid $171,500 between 1994 and 1996 to public officials to grant him permits from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for his Pine Hollow landfill in Steubenville. Three members of the Northern Ohio Valley Air Authority, Patsy J. DeLuca, Ronald DeLuca, and Vincent Zumpano have already pled guilty to their involvement in the receipt of unlawful payments. When sentenced, Vukelic faces a maximum of up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000. RSV faces a maximum fine of up to $500,000 and up to five years probation. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Internal Revenue Service and the FBI. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio prosecuted the case.
