TRUCK-SIDE ADS ENCOURAGE SAFER PESTICIDE USE

FOR RELEASE: TUESDAY, NOV. 21, 2000

TRUCK-SIDE ADS ENCOURAGE SAFER PESTICIDE USE

EPA has launched a new campaign to encourage safer pesticide use by consumers in urban areas. The Agency believes risks from pesticide exposure could be greatly reduced by homeowners by carefully following the directions provided on pesticide product labels. This campaign also will promote the services of the National Pesticide Telecommunications Network (NPTN). The truck-side ad campaign advocates, “Read the Label First!” and provides a toll-free phone number 1-800-858-7378 for NPTN. The initial portion of the campaign will occur in urban areas from Connecticut to northern Virginia, and in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Phoenix. The National Pesticide Telecommunication Network is a comprehensive toll-free hotline providing pesticide safety information, and is also a source of general pesticide information. NPTN can be contacted toll free at 1-800-858-7378 (PEST) or at: http://www.ace.orst.edu/info/nptn Additional information about EPA’s “Read the Label First!” message is available at:
