EPA RELEASES PRELIMINARY STARLINK CORN ASSESSMENT

FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, NOV. 13 2000

EPA RELEASES PRELIMINARY STARLINK CORN ASSESSMENT

Today EPA is making available its preliminary evaluation of information submitted by Aventis regarding the potential allergenicity of StarLink corn. EPA is providing this preliminary evaluation in preparation for the November 28 meeting of the FIFRA Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) to solicit public and scientific review. This preliminary assessment does not draw final conclusions about the potential allergenicity of StarLink corn, and is part of our process to ensure a thorough scientific evaluation of the available information. The Agency is also making available today the questions being posed to the SAP regarding potential allergenicity, sensitization, and possible exposure to StarLink corn. The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn Hotel, 1900 North Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22209. For a copy of EPA’s preliminary assessment, and information on how to submit comments, see the November Meeting Notice found at www.epa.gov/scipoly/sap, or contact EPA’s public docket at 703-305-5805.
