TOXICS RELEASE INVENTORY AND RIGHT-TO-KNOW
CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 8-10


A conference focusing on EPA’s Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Right-to-Know (RTK) program is scheduled for Sept. 8-10 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. On Mon., Sept. 8 and Tues., morning Sept. 9, panel discussions will address existing uses of TRI by local communities, industry, the media and other groups and the data tools available for promoting pollution prevention. Panelists also will present their ideas on the benefits, uncertainties and potential applications for TRI data. Also, on Tues., afternoon Sept. 9 and Wed., Sept.10, panelists will discuss how to improve the use of RTK information, including ways to integrate and interpret data, and issues that are likely to influence its development in the future. Individuals participating in the panel discussions include a cross section of representatives from the federal, state and local governments, environmental and health advocacy groups, industry, community organizations, media, academia and international organizations. The conference also features an exhibition hall which will highlight a range of RTK projects and products. The conference is being organized by the Unison Institute of Washington, D.C., with partial funding and support from EPA.
