TOP EPA AIR OFFICIAL MARY NICHOLS LEAVES AGENCY

Mary D. Nichols, EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation, is leaving the Agency as of today, August 15, to continue her career as an environmental advocate in Los Angeles. She will become the Executive Director of Environment Now, a private foundation dedicated to the protection of the California environment. President Clinton originally nominated Ms. Nichols for the top position on July 16, 1993, and the Senate confirmed her on Nov. 8 of that year. EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner has not yet named an Acting Assistant Administrator to replace her.
