PA ARIZONA TRUCK DRIVER INDICTED FOR FALSIFYING HAZARDOUS WASTE MANIFESTS

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1997

ARIZONA TRUCK DRIVER INDICTED FOR FALSIFYING
HAZARDOUS WASTE MANIFESTS

On Oct. 15, Mark Pecoraro, a truck driver for Hazchem Environmental Inc., was indicted in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona in Phoenix. Pecoraro was indicted on one count of falsifying a hazardous waste manifest under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and one count of making a false statement to the Defense Logistic Agency (DLA.) The DLA was one of several government agencies that used Hazchem to transport hazardous waste. The indictment alleges that Pecoraro falsified a manifest and made a false statement to the DLA in an attempt to conceal hazardous wastes that were being stored beyond the ten day transportation storage time limit allowed under RCRA. This case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division.
