PA CALIFORNIA MAN GET 51 MONTH JAIL TERM FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE AND WEAPONS CHARGESFOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1997 CALIFORNIA MAN GET 51 MONTH JAIL TERM FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE AND WEAPONS CHARGES Frank Fiorillo was sentenced on Dec. 12 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Sacramento to 51 months incarceration, and was ordered to pay a $75,000 fine, and $14,000 in restitution to the Sacramento Fire Department for his July 1997 conviction for the illegal storage and transportation of hazardous wastes, wire fraud, and violations of federal firearms and explosives regulations. In 1993, the Sacramento fire department discovered illegally stored hazardous waste during an inspection of a warehouse leased by Fiorillo and convicted co-defendant, Art Krueger. A further search uncovered 100 rocket motors and warheads, 7500 pounds of explosives, and 17,000 155mm artillery shells, which had ben obtained without proper federal permits. Fiorillo and Krueger operated Safewaste and West Coast Industries Inc., in Sacramento, Calif. Safewaste had contracted to handle hazardous waste for Diversey Inc., a national manufacturer of cleaning chemicals located in Michigan. After providing Diversey with false certificates of disposal for the waste, they hauled it to their warehouse. Krueger is to face sentencing on December 19. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, with the assistance of EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center.
