FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1997

WASHINGTON OWNER AND OPERATOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL LAB CHARGED WITH HAZARDOUS WASTE CRIMES

On Dec. 11, Dr. Abdul Azim Khan of Puyallup, Wash., was charged in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle with two-counts of illegally transporting and disposing of hazardous waste in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Kahn is the owner and operator of Precision Analytics Inc., a Washington state-certified environmental testing facility.
The charges allege that the defendant illegally disposed of more than fourteen thousand environmental samples at dump sites throughout Washington State. Khan is a former professor at Washington State University and an environmental consultant. He had numerous contracts to perform environmental tests for the Army, Air Force, and Navy, as well as several multi-national corporate clients. This was a joint investigation involving EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and the Washington State Department of Ecology, with the assistance of EPA’s National Enforcement Investigations Center.
