PA MISSISSIPPI MAN INDICTED FOR DUMPING HAZARDOUS WASTEFRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1997 MISSISSIPPI MAN INDICTED FOR DUMPING HAZARDOUS WASTE On Nov. 18, David Aultman of Jackson, Miss. was indicted in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi in Jackson for illegally transporting and disposing of hazardous wastes. The charges allege that, between September 1994 and September 1995, Aultman transported more than 100 drums of waste without a permit and dumped them on family property in Jefferson Davis County. The chemicals contained in the drums included lead, methyl ethyl ketone, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride. Exposure to lead has been linked to neurological disorders and benzene exposure is a cause of cancer in people. If convicted, Aultman faces a maximum of up to five years imprisonment and/or up to $250,000 in fines. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, Department of Transportation Inspector General’s Office, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
