PA MISSOURI MAN INDICTED FOR VIOLATING RCRA AND OTHER FEDERAL VIOLATIONSFOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1998 Edward R. Sechrist, owner and president of Essex Waste Management in Kingsville, Mo., was indicted on July 23, in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri in Kansas City for violating the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and for other federal violations. Sechrist allegedly improperly disposed of military gas mask filters by sending them to a sanitary landfill in Johnson County, Mo. The filters contained chromium, which is a known cause of cancer as well as a cause of eye and skin irritation. If convicted on all charges, Sechrist faces a maximum imprisonment of up to five years and/or a fine of up to $250,000 on the RCRA charge plus additional penalties for the other violations. The case was investigated by EPA, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the FBI and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
