NEW BROCHURES ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRESS AT TEN MILITARY INSTALLATIONS AVAILABLE

EPA, in partnership with the Department of Defense, has published a brochure, entitled Environmental Successes at BRAC Installations, which describes environmental successes achieved at ten military bases undergoing realignment or closure. The ten bases include: Plattsburgh Air Force Base, Plattsburgh, N.Y.; U.S. Army Cameron Station, Alexandria, Va.; Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas; Ford Ord, Monterey County, Calif.; Umatilla Chemical Depot, Hermiston, Ore.; Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, Calif.; Newark Air Force Base, Newark, Heath, Ohio; Naval Air Station Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Fla.; Tooele Army Depot, Tooele County, Utah; and Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Oscoda, Mich. The brochure provides specific examples of how teamwork, community involvement, and innovative technologies have led to improved cleanup and productive reuse of property. The results of such efforts have produced taxpayer savings, new jobs, and revitalized local economies. The brochure is available on the Internet at: http://www.epa.gov/swerffrr. For paper copies of the brochure, contact Debby Leblang, EPA’s Federal Facilities Restoration and Reuse Office at 202-260-8302.
