PA EPA PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD ON MAY 1 FOR DATA ON PERSISTENT, BIOACCUMULATIVE TOXIC CHEMICALS

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 1998

EPA PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD ON MAY 1 FOR DATA ON PERSISTENT, BIOACCUMULATIVE TOXIC CHEMICALS

EPA has scheduled a public meeting to receive comments on the Agency’s proposal to add dioxin and dioxin-like compounds to EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory (TRI). The meeting will also provide opportunities for comments on the addition of other persistent, bioaccumulative toxic substances to the TRI, the possibility of lowering reporting thresholds for these substances, and methods the Agency could employ to provide communities with more information on releases of toxic chemicals that persist and bioaccumulate in the environment and in people. The meeting will focus on the effects of such actions on small entities, including small businesses and small local governments. The meeting is scheduled for May 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be held in EPA’s Auditorium, 401 “M” St. S.W., Washington, D.C. 20460. To submit written comments for inclusion in the public record or to register to speak at the meeting, contact Thelma Harvey at 202-260-3949.
