PA CONNECTICUT MANUFACTURER SENTENCEDFOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1998 CONNECTICUT MANUFACTURER SENTENCED Polymetric Inc., a subsidiary of U.S. Filter Corp., was sentenced on Sept.17, to pay a $1 million fine by the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut in Hartford. In a previous plea agreement on June 10, Polymetric admitted that it had discharged highly acidic waste water into the South Windsor Connecticut sewer system in December 1995. The discharge killed the beneficial bacteria in the local municipal sewage treatment plant, causing untreated sewage and industrial waste to flow into the Connecticut River. In addition to the fine, the company has also agreed to donate $350,000 to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CDEP) for the purchase of park land along the Connecticut River.
