ACTING ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR NAMED FOR EPA OFFICE
OF PREVENTION, PESTICIDES AND TOXIC SUBSTANCES


Effective Jan. 1, 1999, EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner named Susan H. Wayland as the Acting Assistant Administrator for OPPTS to replace Lynn R. Goldman, M.D., who departed the Agency on Dec. 31. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Wayland was the Deputy Assistant Administrator for OPPTS since 1994. She has over 25 years of experience in environmental regulation, focusing on policy issues regarding food safety, pesticides and toxic chemicals. She has received the Agency’s highest honor award, the Gold Medal for Exceptional Service, and the Presidential Rank Award as a Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service in 1989. Stephen L. Johnson currently the Office Director in the Office of Pesticide Programs also was named as the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for OPPTS.
