1000TH WASTEWISE PARTNER CELEBRATED

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2000

1000TH WASTEWISE PARTNER CELEBRATED

EPA’s WasteWise program, now in its sixth year, is celebrating its 1,000th partner - the U.S. Postal Service - Sacramento District. WasteWise partners are organizations that voluntarily set goals to reduce municipal solid waste. Partners include businesses, institutions, and other organizations representing 50 industrial sectors committed to cutting costs and conserving natural resources. EPA provides WasteWise partners with technical assistance and helps promote the achievement of its partners. To capitalize on the success of this program, EPA launched a campaign this month to promote federal agency participation in the WasteWise program and to help federal facilities meet their obligations under the President’s Executive Order 13101. The Executive Order directs federal agencies to set five-year goals to improve their waste prevention, recycling collection and recycled-content product procurement programs which are the same goals as the WasteWise program. More information about the WasteWise program is available at: http://www.epa.gov/wastewise.
