EPA, in cooperation with the Global Environment and Technology Foundation (GETF), has developed a detailed, step-by-step handbook to help wastewater facilities understand and develop environmental management systems (EMS) entitled Achieving Environmental Excellence:An Environmental Management Systems Handbook for Wastewater Utilities. The Handbook was enhanced by the input from a number of wastewater utilities that have successfully implemented EMS. Throughout the document, the reader will find numerous examples, implementation tips, and other important information from these utilities, including costs and benefits of implementing an EMS. This is the only document of its kind currently available to wastewater utilities in the U.S. and will hopefully pave the way for greater adoption of EMS in the wastewater sector. more... |
