PA SUZUKI CARS RECALLED FOR EXCESSIVE CARBON MONOXIDE EMISSIO

HIGH-ALTITUDE SUZUKI CARS RECALLED FOR EXCESSIVE

CARBON MONOXIDE EMISSIONS

EPA said Suzuki Motor Corp. began mailing recall notices to more than 2000 owners of l990 Geo Metros, Metro LSis, Chevrolet Sprints, Pontiac Fireflys and Suzuki Swifts because they exceed the carbon monoxide (CO) emission standard when operated at high-altitude areas. EPA said the excessive CO was discovered during emission tests performed on the cars at the Colorado Department of Health. The automaker later agreed to recall the vehicles. Suzuki will replace the oxygen sensor with a design that produces a leaner air/fuel mixture. CO reduces the amount of oxygen delivered to muscles and various organs. The effects are more pronounced for people in high-altitude locations where oxygen concentrations are lower. The repair is free and will take about l0 minutes. Owners should contact a Chevrolet-Geo dealer to schedule an appointment for the emission repair. Swift and Firefly owners will be contacted at a later date.
