National Environmental Crime Prevention Week

The major objective of National Environmental Crime Prevention Week is to convey to the general public and government enforcement personnel the seriousness of environmental criminal activity and increase their awareness of the signs of environmental criminal activity and the need to report such activity to the proper authorities.

The Regional Environmental Enforcement Associations have declared the second full week in April as National Environmental Crime Prevention Week. President George W. Bush recognized the importance of the annual observance and stated that "individuals, communities, and environmental enforcement professionals must work together to stop environmental criminal activity."

The Regional Associations intend to progressively develop a diverse and broad based public awareness program by targeting different segments of the general public annually. Each successive year will add new activities and events aimed at increasing the awareness of a certain segment of the propulation.
