Leavitt to Address Air Pollution Control Technology Conference

(Washington, D.C. - Aug. 27, 2004) EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt will keynote a power plant control technologies conference in Washington, D.C., Monday, Aug. 30. Leavitt’s remarks will focus on the facts, fiction and complexities of regulating mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants for the first time. A panel discussion on controlling mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants will follow.

The conference is jointly sponsored by EPA, the Electric Power Research Institute, the DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, and the Air & Waste Management Association. Hundreds of technical experts from around the country are expected to attend this conference which covers the latest power plant control technologies, and showcases experience with state-of-the-art methods for reducing air emissions from fossil-fueled boilers.
