Welcome to Water in Region 4

The United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region 4 office is located in the heart of the southeast of the United States in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Water Management Division has responsibility for overseeing the water programs in the eight southeastern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The Water Management Division is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of over 28 water quality management related programs.

OUR VISION: To protect and improve the Region's waters and to support a diverse and healthy ecosystem to meet the needs of a growing population.

OUR MISSION: The United States Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Water, and Region share this mission: To maintain, enhance, protect, and restore the quality and quantity of all water resources for the furtherance of healthy, sustainable ecosystems and the human environment. We agree to pursue this mission in partnership with each other, the States, Tribal governments, local governments, other federal agencies, and stakeholders.

OUR MOTTO: Protecting Every Precious Drop!

We have a broad range of responsibilities in this office but, in simple terms, our job is to protect, restore and assure citizens in the Southeast that they have good water and this resource will be restored and protected to the extent federal legislation provides. Adequate and safe water resources are required for all human activity. It has always been that way and it will always be that way.

James D. Giattina
