NATIONAL DRINKING WATER ADVISORY COUNCIL
SOURCE WATER PROTECTION WORKING GROUP

Working Group Mission Statement

To provide recommendations and advice to the National Drinking Water Advisory Council on the coordinated implementation of source water protection related provisions of the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments. In the immediate future, the working group wil focus on serving as a forum within which interested stakeholders and EPA can develop a consensus on a National Source Water Protection Program Guidance which will include SDWA 96 required guidances for State Source Water Protection Assessment Programs and Source Water Petition Programs. In the near-term, the working group will provide advice to the Council on a means for encouraging States to take full advantage of the 1997 "window of opportunity" for the use of the Source Water Assessment set aside from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. Over the longer term, the working group will provide advice to the Council on a variety of means for encouraging local source water protection efforts.
