Search Options

Simple Search
This type of search enables you to view the documents you find as page images (in the .TIF format). Each document can be viewed one page at a time, and each page image can be downloaded or printed from your computer.

Enhanced Search
The Enhanced Search gives results similar to the Simple Search, with a few enhancements. Documents you find can be viewed as page images, but they can also be viewed as text files which can be searched further with your web browser. The search query can be refined by adding or removing search terms, as well as by changing their relative importance.

Publication Number/Title Search
This type of search will show you a list of all EPA publications. The list is in sequence by publication number and/or alphanumerically by EPA publication title.

EPA Site Search
If you are unable to find what you are seeking using the NEPIS facilities, it may be possible to locate the desired information elsewhere within the EPA website. To do so try using the EPA Site Search to scan all HTML files (web pages) and PDF files (Portable Document image Files) located on the EPA Public Access Server.

About the Search Engines

For Simple and Enhanced searches, the NEPIS uses the search engine Clarit which enables documents to be viewed over the World Wide Web. The document images can be viewed using most commercially available web browsers such as Netscape or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Clarit enables users to locate, view and print documents stored on the system by using a search query function. You simply type information into an online form and then click a button to submit the form. The server will then provide results based on the information you have provided.

For the EPA Site Search, the NEPIS uses the Verity Search 97 search engine. This search engine operates in much the same way as the Clarit search engine. You type a query into a box and then click a button to submit your search query. After submitting a query, the search engine will display a page of results, with links to corresponding web pages for each match.
