Influenza Update 2003

A National Immunization Program, National Center for Infectious Diseases and
Public Health Training Network Satellite Broadcast

This live program will provide the most current information available on influenza surveillance, vaccine supply, CDC "interim" recommendations regarding priority groups for vaccination, use of live attenuated influenza vaccine and vaccination of children. The program will also provide guidance on antiviral use, infection control measures, laboratory issues such as diagnostic tests, case reporting and communication contact information.
Goal
To update providers on the most recent information regarding the 2003-04 Influenza season.

Objectives
At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
  • Describe current influenza activity in the U.S.
  • Describe the status of the influenza vaccine supply.
  • List recommendations for priority groups for vaccination
  • Describe the use of influenza diagnostic tests.
  • State the recommended use of antiviral medication.
  • Identify appropriate infection control measures.
Target Audience
Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, DoD paraprofessionals, pharmacists, and their colleagues who either give immunizations or set policy for their offices, clinics, communicable disease, or infection control programs. Both private and public healthcare providers, including pediatricians, family practice specialists, residents, and medical and nursing students.

Participants are encouraged but not required to register and evaluate the broadcast/webcast on the CDC Training and Continuing Education Online System at http://www.phppo.cdc.gov/phtnonline.

Although continuing education credit is not available for the broadcast/webcast, registration and evaluation will provide valuable feedback to CDC. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants who register and complete the evaluation.
