Air Force men’s soccer team shuts out San Diego State, 4-0

11/8/2004 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- David Schill and Colin Eames each scored a goal and added an assist as the Air Force Academy soccer team defeated San Diego State University here Nov. 7, 4-0.

With the victory, Air Force improved to 8-8-1 overall and 4-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and moved ahead of the San Diego Aztecs.

Schill started things off by scoring his second goal in as many games in the 21st minute. The play started as Daniel Bolin passed to Eames off a free kick. Eames turned and fired a crossing pass to the goal mouth, where Schill and Scott Muir were parked. Muir took a shot that was saved but not corralled by San Diego goalie Tally Hall, and Schill was there for the rebound. Eames and Muir were each credited with an assist.

Marcus Sagastume scored his sixth goal of the season to put Air Force up 2-0 in the final minute of the first half. He intercepted a pass from a San Diego defender, dribbled through a couple of Aztecs and fired a shot from 22 yards that just eluded Hall. It was Sagastume’s 27th career goal.

Air Force added two goals in the second half, the first by Eames three minutes into the period. Schill set up the play with a pass that found Eames behind the Aztec defense and one-on-one with Hall. Eames kicked the ball through Hall’s legs, and the Falcons were ahead 3-0. Falcon Brendan Greenaway capped the scoring with the first goal of his career off a direct kick from 20 yards that found the upper right corner of the net in the 85th minute.

After allowing just two shots on goal in a 3-0 victory over the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Nov. 5, the Falcons allowed San Diego only one shot on goal in the entire game. Goalie Paul Elsbernd played the first half and recorded the only save for Air Force, while freshman Brian Guyette played the second half and did not see a shot on goal.

Air Force held a 16-12 advantage in total shots and had eight shots on goal. Hall made four saves for San Diego, which fell to 3-13-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the federation.

The Falcons close out the 2004 regular season with a series against the University of Denver. The teams play in Denver on Nov. 12 and here Nov. 14.
