A principal goal of the AAMFT is to increase understanding, research and education of the discipline and to ensure that public needs for marriage and family therapy are met by well-trained, qualified practitioners. The organization accredits graduate degree and post-graduate training institutes throughout the United States and Canada; represents member concerns on legislative and policy matters; and promotes research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy. Services to the general public include a brochure about marriage and family therapy and an on-line directory of AAMFT clinical members.. Online Resources
Print ResourcesThe AAMFT publishes brochures, including "A Consumer's Guide to Marriage and Family Therapy,"" to help educate professionals and consumers about using and locating a marriage and family therapist; position papers; and a series of training videotapes for professionals. Serial publications: Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, quarterly -- published articles on trends and research in the field; Family Therapy News (newspaper), bi-monthly -- news developments, interviews, and legislative updates; Practice Strategies--monthly newsletter on private practice management.
