Industrial and Agricultural Waste Conversion

Research assistant Daphne Groot and microbiologist Dr. Patricia Hartzell participate in a research project exploring the use of thermophilic, anaerobic, and sulfur-reducing Archaeon (Archaebacterium) Archaeoglobus fulgidus for converting industrial and agricultural waste materials to methane. Dr. Hartzell and Ms. Groot are participants in the Idaho EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) Program. This work was developed under National Science Foundation (NSF) grant OSR 93-50539.
EPSCoR is a joint program between NSF and several U.S. states and territories that promotes the development of a states' science and technology resources through partnerships involving the state's universities, industry, and government, as well as the Federal research and development enterprise. EPSCoR is located in the Education and Human Resources Directorate.
