On the Signing into Public Law NSF’s Budget for Fiscal Year 1999

I am pleased that the President signed into law the FY 1999 appropriations act that includes a substantial increase for the National Science Foundation.

This is a strong statement both by the President and Congress on the importance of investing in research and education, and extends significantly our ability to open the frontiers of science and engineering.

We appreciate the vote of confidence in NSF's continued leadership in supporting scientific and engineering discoveries, technological breakthroughs and the integration of research and education.
