Press Statement - May 12, 2000
Statement by Dr. Karl Erb
Director, Office of Polar Programs
On the Death of Rodney Marks
I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends and many colleagues of Rodney Marks, a distinguished astrophysicist. He was a member of the close-knit community at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station for several seasons and I know his loss will be felt very deeply there. Rodney was also an important member of the larger community of Antarctic researchers, who are searching for answers to enormously important scientific questions. That community -- and that search for knowledge -- were enriched by Rodney's presence. They are diminished by his passing.
