Statement by Dr. Neal Lane
Director, National Science Foundation
On Nomination of New Deputy Director
I am delighted that the President has announced his intent to nominate
Dr. Rita R. Colwell, a nationally respected scientist and experienced
educator, as the next deputy director of the National Science
Foundation. As the current President of the University of Maryland
Biotechnology Institute and former President of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), she will bring both
the research and management experience necessary to this position. As
a former member of the National Science Board, she brings a special
understanding of NSF to the job. I look forward to welcoming her to
the NSF management team.
