This Code Book is issued by the National Science Foundation for use by Federal Agencies participating in the reporting system originally established by the Committee on Academic Science and Engineering (CASE) of the Federal Council for Science and Technology. The codes in this book are to be used when reporting to the Survey of Federal Science and Engineering Support to Universities, Colleges, and Nonprofit Institutions. The first section contains codes for the participating Federal agencies and their subagencies, as well as for fields of science and engineering; the main body of the Code Book is devoted to institution identification codes. This version of the Code Book was prepared for the FY 1999 data collection cycle.
