Federal Facilities Civil Enforcement
One of EPA's most important roles is ensuring that Federal agencies comply with environmental requirements in the same manner and extent as privately-owned facilities. The Federal Facilities Enforcement Office (FFEO) and the Regions regularly analyze compliance and enforcement data, monitor Federal agency compliance, negotiate and issue compliance orders and agreements, assess fines, and develop Federal agency enforcement and compliance policy and guidance. EPA has explicit authority to assess fines at Federal facilities violating environmental statutes, including the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
