Guidelines and Assessment Tools for Environmental Education!

- What constitutes quality EE materials? How do I find existing ones?

- What should students learn about the environment at different grade levels and how can I assess my EE program?

- How can I use EE to meet national and state education standards? Are there any correlations which demonstrate how various EE programs meet such standards?

- How do I know whether I'm prepared to teach about the environment?

- I teach EE at local zoos and museums. How do I ensure I'm teaching a quality non-formal program?

- How do I evaluate the content and structure of Web sites to meet my teaching and communication needs?

- How can I assess my EE organization's capacity building potential and long-term effectiveness?

The Environmental Education and Training Partnershipexit EPA (EETAP) is addressing these and other questions in an unprecedented effort to develop balanced, scientifically accurate, educationally- appropriate, and comprehensive national guidelines and assessment tools for EE. This effort includes the development of guidelines and assessment tools as well as the delivery of training workshops for materials, learners, educators, EE organizations, and the World Wide Web. EETAP partners spearheading this effort are the North American Association for Environmental Educationexit EPA (NAAEE), Northern Illinois University, the National Environmental Education Advancement Projectexit EPA (NEEAP), and Ohio State University's EETAP Resource Libraryexit EPA. In addition, Project Learning Treeexit EPA, Project WETexit EPA, and Project WILDexit EPA are developing correlations of their programs to the EE guidelines as well as various state and national education standards to demonstrate how their programs can be used to meet education reform goals.

The following identifies specific projects and publications developed by these organizations as part of or in conjunction with this effort. You may access additional information on these organizations and their publications by clicking where indicated below.
