Description

Congress established the Superfund Program in 1980 to eliminate the health and environmental threats posed by hazardous waste sites. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administers the Superfund program through the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) in cooperation with individual states and tribal governments. Superfund locates, investigates and cleans up the worst hazardous waste sites throughout the United States.
