Scientific and Engineering Research Facilities: 1999 (NSF 04-334)
This report replaces Scientific and Engineering Research Facilities: 1999 (NSF 01-330) released in July 2001. SRS is releasing revised data for the 1999 cycle of Survey of Science and Engineering Research Facilities. This survey provides data on the status of research facilities located at U.S. research-performing academic institutions and biomedical research organizations. The data was revised using new weights in order to provide national and subnational estimates. (September 13, 2004)
Latin America Shows Rapid Rise in S&E Articles (NSF 04-336)
This report examines the rapid rise of S&E article output by seven Latin American countries-Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Venezuela. Trends in international collaboration, scientific portfolio, and citation of these seven countries' S&E articles are also examined. (September 1, 2004)
Federal R&D Funding by Budget Function: Fiscal Years 2002-04 (NSF 04-329)
This annual report contains information about Federal funding of the research and development (R&D) and the R&D plant components of agency programs, as proposed by the administration for fiscal year (FY) 2004. (July 21, 2004)
Redesign of Survey of Science and Engineering Research Facilities: 2003
NSF, in conjunction with NIH and Westat, decided to redesign the survey to improve both the quality and usefulness of the data and response rates, and also to reflect changes in the ways that S&E research is conducted. This document explains how this extensive survey redesign effort was carried out during the 2001-03 period. (June 18, 2004)
Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering: 2004 (NSF 04-317)
This report continues a series of Congressionally-mandated biennial reports, providing data on the participation of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities in science and engineering education and employment. The data and analyses presented here can be used to track progress, inform the development of policies to increase participation in science and engineering, and evaluate the effectiveness of such policies. (June 16, 2004)
Gender Differences in the Careers of Academic Scientists and Engineers (NSF 04-323)
This study uses data from the Survey of Doctorate Recipientsa nationally representative sample of doctorates in science and engineeringto examine gender differences for four critical outcomes that reflect successful movement along the postsecondary academic career path. These four critical outcomes are tenure track placements, earning tenure, promotion to the associate professor rank, and promotion to the full professor rank. (June 10, 2004)
The Extent of Federal S&E Funding to Minority-Serving Institutions (NSF 04-325)
This InfoBrief focuses on funding support levels to HBCUs, Hispanic serving institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities derived from three SRS surveys. Coverage includes the highlights of Federal funding categories of support, of Federal agency funding distributions, of individual university funding shares, and comparisons about agency and category distributions of funding between HBCUs, Hispanic serving institutions, Tribal institutions, and either all institutions or all other academic institutions. There is also a discussion of support for R&D facilities by source of funding. (June 9, 2004)
