An Experience in Managing Emergencies
The IEMC is a 4.5 day exercise based training activity that places
public officials and emergency personnel in a realistic crisis situation
within a structured learning environment.
New for FY04: Metropolitan
Medical Response System (MMRS) IEMC Programs
Beginning in FY04 the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s
Integrated Emergency Management Branch will conduct 20 IEMC community
specific programs for MMRS jurisdictions across the nation. Learn

Community
Specific Enrollment
Jurisdictions
from across the nation have until April 15, 2005 to apply for
an
Community/State specific program. Applications and requests letters
should be forwarded to the Superintendent of the Emergency Management
Institute through the appropriate State Emergency Management Agency
and FEMA Regional Office.
Course
Goal
The course builds the awareness and skills needed to develop and
implement policies, plans, and procedures to protect life and property
through applications of sound emergency management principles in
all phases of emergency management.
NATIONAL OPEN ENROLLMENT AND VACANCIES
The National Open Enrollment System has two open enrollment periods
for resident programs at EMI and the Noble Training Center. During
each of the open enrollment periods all potential students from
all
areas
(regions)
of the country are eligible to apply.

Who
Should Attend
Elected officials are an important audience. Mid-level management,
supervisory, and operational personnel from various disciplines
also benefit from the experience. The Integrated Emergency Management
Course is also designed for personnel who fill the following, or
similar positions, in their community. Examples

Methodology
A combination of classroom lectures and discussions, small-group
planning sessions, and practical exercises will expose participants
to new ideas and increase their awareness. For the emergency exercise,
each participant is assigned a role similar to his/her real-life
position.
Exercises
and the Model Community
During the exercises in the /Preparedness and Response program,
students face a variety of emergency/disaster situations.
