Compliance assistance helps business, industry, and government - the "regulated community" - understand and meet their environmental obligations. EPA partners with other providers of assistance to develop and deliver compliance assistance resources such as Web sites, compliance guides, fact sheets, and training materials. These partners include state and local governments, trade associations, non-profit organizations, and academia. EPA also works with these organizations to help serve as a repository of information on compliance assistance tools and to measure the results of compliance assistance.

This Web site presents compliance assistance resources by business sectors and by federal laws (statutes).

Sector-oriented assistance addresses compliance issues or needs for business and industry sectors (e.g.,dry cleaning, metal finishers, furniture manufacturers) and government sectors (e.g., local governments, tribal governments and federal government facilities).

Statute-specific assistance includes compliance assistance activities or tools related to specific EPA statutes or regulations, e.g. Clean Air Act.

Also included on the Compliance Assistance Web site is information on:

  • Planning for compliance assistance enables all stakeholders to understand the purpose and timing of planned activities. This allows EPA offices and regions, along with other compliance assistance providers and the regulated community, to identify opportunities for improved coordination, collaboration or partnerships in developing and delivering compliance assistance
  • Compliance Assistance Centers Exit EPA disclaimer provide sector-specific information that address real world issues in language that speaks to the regulated entities.
  • Stakeholder outreach includes everyone who provides or receives compliance assistance, including other federal agencies.
  • The Clean Air Act Applicability Determinations are responses to source owners or operators who need to know whether certain intended actions constitute the commencement of construction, reconstruction, or modification to the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) in 40 CFR Parts 60 and the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) in 40 CFR Parts 61 and 63, under the Clean Air Act.
