(02/27/2004) EPA Settlement Will Bring Puerto Rico Schools into Compliance With Asbestos Regulations - San Juan, P.R. -- To ensure that Puerto Rico schools comply with federal asbestos-management requirements for schools, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reached an agreement with the Government of Puerto Rico that requires the Commonwealth to spend at least $5.6 million to identify and fix asbestos problems in the schools.
(02/27/2004) EPA fines Tucson company $12,995 for failing to report storage of a hazardous chemical - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today fined a Tucson company $12,995 for failing to report to the appropriate authorities on the amount the facility was storing of a hazardous chemical, a violation of federal emergency planning and community-right-to-know laws.

(02/23/2004) US Sues Dry Cleaners to Enforce EPA Orders - New York, N.Y. - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Attorney''s office for the Southern District of New York announced today that they have filed a complaint against Splendid Enterprises Limited of New York City for failing to pay a penalty assessed by an EPA Administrative Law Judge for hazardous waste violations.
(02/19/2004) EPA settles case against Phoenix company for toxic chemical reporting violations - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today reached an $8,840 settlement with a Phoenix company for failing to report the amount of toxic chemicals it was processing at its facility, a violation of the federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.

Applications must be date stamped by courier service or postmarked by the U. S. Postal Service by midnight, Friday, April 30, 2004.
(02/18/2004) A Federal Register Notice, published February 18, 2004, announces the availability of STAG funds - This Notice highlights the eligibility criteria, describes the funding area, explains the process of applying for funds, and includes a suggested outline for submitting electronic proposals. This grant funding will support state/tribal efforts to procure technical assistance and technical expertise to ensure that they will be able to accurately transmit water enforcement and compliance data to OECA modernized systems. (02/17/2004) Alaska General Seafoods Agrees to Fix Fish Waste Problems - The Northwest regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that Alaska General Seafoods (AGS) has agreed to fix water pollution problems at the company''s seafood processing facility in Ketchikan, Alaska. The proposed settlement requires the company to pay $110,000 in penalties for violations of the federal Clean Water Act and prevent discharges of seafood processing waste into Tongass Narrows during the 2004 and 2005 processing seasons.

Simplot Company agreed today to pay the EPA $525,000 and install $2 million in air pollution control equipment to resolve violations of the federal Clean Air Act at its silica sand mining facility in Overton, Nev.
(02/12/2004) National Environmental Assistance Summit: An Alliance to Prevent Pollution, Achieve Compliance, and Innovate for Environmental Results - Three U.S. EPA Offices -- Compliance, Pollution Prevention and Toxics and the National Center for Environmental Innovation are partnering with the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable to sponsor the National Environmental Assistance Summit from April 19 to April 22, 2004, in Baltimore, Md. This Summit will convene individuals who work in the environmental assistance arena for sessions that will focus on pollution prevention, compliance assistance, environmental policy innovations, environmental management systems, sustainability and best practices. Industry, small business and trade association representatives are encouraged to attend and to provide their perspectives on environmental assistance.
