(04/30/2004) EPA Files Complaints Against Three Major Rhode Island Property Owners for Failing to Warn Buyers and Tenants About Lead-Based Paint Hazards in Housing - BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys New England Office today announced eight enforcement actions, seeking up to $730,000 in civil penalties, against three large Rhode Island property owners for violations of federal lead-paint disclosure rules involving dozens of houses and apartments in Providence, Pawtucket, Woonsocket and several other Rhode Island communities.
(04/29/2004) EPA Cites Three Companies for Unlawfully Filling Wetlands in Suffolk, Va. - PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has cited J& J Clearing and Grading, Inc., Rountree Construction Company, Inc., and JSW Disposal Co. for unlawfully filling protected wetlands located in J&J;=s property at 3979 Pughsville Road in Suffolk, Va.
(04/29/2004) Phosphorus manufacturer sentenced to pay $18M in criminal fines and restitution, clean up site - Denver -- Chief U.S. District Court Judge Donald W. Molloy (D-Mont) today sentenced Rhodia Inc. to pay a total of $18 million in criminal fines and restitution as a result of its guilty pleas previously entered on January 14, 2004, to two felony violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

TO CUT AIR EMISSIONS AND PAY PENALTY - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency today announced a settlement that resolves federal Clean Air Act and other environmental claims against True Manufacturing Co., a maker of commercial refrigeration equipment in O''''Fallon, Mo., near St. Louis.

Apartment Owner and Property Agent Cited for Not Notifying Tenants about Lead Paint Hazard - PHILADELPHIA  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has cited the owner and property agent of the Park Plaza Apartments in Washington, D.C., for violations of a federal law requiring disclosure of lead-based paint hazards to residential tenants in Washington, D.C.

Philadelphia Tenants - PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a $23,100 penalty against Budget Homes, Inc. (BHI) for violations of a federal law requiring disclosure of lead-based paint hazards to residential tenants.

(04/21/2004) Great Feeder Canal Company Agrees to Penalty for Unauthorized Discharges to the Snake River - The Great Feeder Canal Company (GFCC), a Southeast Idaho water provider to agriculture, has signed an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to settle violations of the federal Clean Water Act. As part of the settlement, GFCC agreed to repair the environmental damage and pay a $15,000 penalty.
(04/16/2004) Issuance of CERCLA Model Administrative Order Directing Compliance with Request for Access, - Model language designed for situations where the Agency needs access to property, but is unable to get such access on a consensual baisis. The model language does not change any current Agency policies, rather it provides a consistent approach to drafting orders for access.
(04/15/2004) US EPA announces compliance efforts among California auto dismantlers - LOS ANGELES -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today its successes with the automobile dismantling industry, citing an enforcement settlement that will reduce polluted stormwater runoff and require removal and recycling of mercury switches from junked cars.

(04/14/2004) Multistar Industries Named in Complaint for Clean Air Act and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-know Act Violations - U.S. EPA has filed a civil administrative complaint, including a $20,000 proposed penalty, against Multistar Industries, of Othello, Washington, alleging that Multistar failed to file a Risk Management Plan and provide annual inventories of hazardous chemicals to the local fire department, State Emergency Response Commission and Local Emergency Planning Committee, as required under federal law.

(04/13/2004) WY public water system compliance increases over last year - Denver -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that 592 of Wyoming''''s public water systems achieved perfect compliance with the total coliform (bacteria) rule in 2003. This represents 80 percent of all public water systems in Wyoming, up from 74 percent last year.

(SMI) for Clean Water Act violations at the company''''s automobile salvage yard at 1900 Manor Road, York, Pa. EPA seeks a $11,000 penalty for violations of regulations designed to reduce water pollution from contaminated storm water runoff.

Salvo Inc., doing business as Miracle Sealants Company of Arcadia Calif., $13,200 for allegedly selling a mislabeled pesticide product named "Miracle Disinfectant, a violation of EPA''''s pesticide regulations.
(04/07/2004) Consent order to bring Michigan City water to most of Town of Pines; public meetings April 13 - CHICAGO -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 announced today that the companies responsible for ground-water contamination in the Town of Pines, Ind., immediately west of Michigan City, have agreed to pay for new municipal water connections for most households in the community.
(04/07/2004) EPA cites eight companies for violation of Architectural Coating Rules - CHICAGO (April 7, 2004)  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has cited eight companies  three in Michigan, two in Ohio and one each in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin  for alleged violations of federal architectural coating rules. Architectural coatings are paints and similar coverings used on building exteriors, pavements and curbs.
(04/07/2004) U.S. EPA reaches $4.2 million agreement with 10 companies over cleanup at a San Jose Superfund site - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has reached an agreement with 10 companies and the U.S. Navy for reimbursement of clean up costs at a federal Superfund site in San Jose.
(04/06/2004) Department of Veterans Affairs Agrees to $133,000 Settlement For Lead Paint Disclosure Violations in Maine and Massachusetts - BOSTON -- The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has agreed to pay a $10,068 penalty and perform environmental projects worth $123,050 to settle claims by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that it failed to properly inform tenants about potential lead hazards at employee housing provided by the department.
(04/05/2004) Cambridge Plating To Pay $50,000 For Waste Violations - BOSTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced that Cambridge Plating, LLC has agreed to pay a $50,000 fine to settle allegations of violations of hazardous waste handling regulations at its Belmont metal-plating facility in 2002.
(04/05/2004) EPA settles case against a Richmond company for toxic chemical release reporting violations - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently reached a $9,356 settlement with a Richmond company Professional Finishing, Inc. for failing to report the amount of a toxic chemical it was releasing from its facility, a violation of the federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.
(04/05/2004) Thomas V. Skinner Named As Acting Assistant Administrator For the Office of Enforcement - Washington, D.C. -- The White House announced on April 2 the appointment of Thomas V. Skinner, as Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Phyllis Harris, the current Acting Assistant Administrator will remain as the Deputy Assistant Administrator.
(04/01/2004) U.S. EPA fines Washington state dredging company for ocean dumping violations - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that it has reached a $100,000 settlement with a dredging company for ocean dumping violations that occurred during a harbor deepening project at the Port of Richmond in the late 1990s.
(04/01/2004) U.S. files complaint against Tuba City gas station owners and operators for underground tank violations on Navajo Nation - SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Attorney in Phoenix today filed a complaint on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency against owners and operators of a Tuba City gas station on the Navajo Nation for underground storage tank violations.
