Northeast NPR-A Plan Amendment

In April 2003 the U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced plans to amend its 1998 land use plan for 4.6 million acres in the northeast corner of NPR-A. The Final Integrated Activity Plan/Environmental Impact Statement completed in 1998 is available online, as is the Record of Decision for the EIS.

In June 2004, BLM released its draft plan amendment. Public comments were accepted through August 23, 2004. To read the draft plan or find additional information, check the project website (links to a non-BLM server).

Alpine Satellite Development Plan

In response to a proposal from ConocoPhillips, BLM recently completed an environmental impact statement evaluating the Alpine Satellite Deveopment Plan, which involves oilfield development in the northeast corner of NPR-A. A thirty-day period of availability for public review began September 3. Following this period, BLM will issue a Record of Decision regarding the Preferred Alternative. Additional information, including an on-line version of the Alpine Satellite Development Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) may be found at the following web site: Alpine Satellite Development Program EIS (this links to a non-BLM server).

Other Projects

After conducting oil and gas lease sales in 1999 and 2002, BLM authorized several oil and gas exploration projects in the area. A recently completed environmental assessment for an ongoing exploration project is available here.
