Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC)

PBGC typically hires for the following positions:

Actuary: Reviews and identifies data needed for actuarial purposes; analyzes plan documents of terminated pension plans to determine benefit entitlement and calculates the Title IV benefits for each plan participant; determines present value of Title IV benefits and allocates pension plan assets by priority categories according to Title IV of ERISA and PBGC regulation; assists in determining plan asset sufficiency/insufficiency; and uses the computer in determining the above.

Pension Law Specialist: Reviews, verifies, calculates and authorizes benefit payments to the participants and beneficiaries covered by the benefit plans which are or will be trusteed by the PBGC; analyzes pension plans, dates of plan terminations and other circumstances of PBGC trusteeship and determines legal, policy, and related issues requiring resolution prior to the determination of level of guaranteed benefits; provides technical assistance to division employees in processing "missing" participants; and serves as a resource on benefit determinations and payment processing of plans trusteed by PBGC.

Accountant: Processes a full range of accounting transactions for assigned departments and programs within PBGC; serves as an accounting liaison, providing accounting assistance and technical expertise in resolving problems and questions from budget liaisons, Contract Officers Technical Representatives, and commercial vendors; prepares a variety of special reports and analyses relating to assigned areas of responsibility; and provides assistance in fiscal and calendar year-end reporting.

Auditor: Plans and conducts complex field audits on pension plans. The audits involve identifying sources of documents and where the information can be found, determining what plan assets exist, analyzing the assets and value of the assets in accordance with PBGC regulations, and checking for fraud and/or fiduciary breach. Explains and provides technical assistance to plan administrators and/or their representatives, union representatives, and plan participants regarding the PBGC Title IV termination insurance program and reportable events program. Prepares correspondence and management reports.
