Case Inquiries

What we can and cannot do if you have questions or concerns about your case:

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), located within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals and communities. The major programs for which ACF is responsible include Child Support Enforcement, Child Care, Foster Care, Adoption Assistance, Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Developmental Disabilities, Head Start, and Runaway and Homeless Youth. The ACF Regional Office (Region 9) located in San Francisco, California, monitors and assists these programs in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the Territory of Guam, and other Outer Pacific jurisdictions.

ACF does not directly provide services to individuals but rather awards grants to state and local governments, not-for-profit organizations, and Native American tribal organizations, which have responsibility for direct delivery of services. As such, our office does not conduct hearings regarding individual cases or otherwise adjudicate individual complaints. We do not have the authority to intervene in or change the determinations of State or local courts in individual cases. Also, we generally do not directly provide information on the status of individual cases.

We can, however, help you identify state and local organizations that provide services for the programs which ACF funds and oversees. We can also direct you to the appropriate state or local organization if you need information on the status of your case or have concerns regarding the handling of your case. If you need information on the status of your case or have concerns about how your case is being handled, you should first contact the appropriate state and/or local organization(s). If you have done so and have still been unable to obtain the requested information, we can in many instances work with the appropriate organization to facilitate your receipt of this information.

Listed below are the major programs for which ACF is responsible. You can click on the desired program to see the agencies that deliver services for that program or that can refer you to organizations that provide such services in each Region 9 state. If you need to contact our office, you can do so by writing to us or sending us an e-mail message at the following addresses.
