• USDA Economics and Statistics System: Data Sets and Reports is a good gopher site established to provide "worldwide access to agricultural data" the U. S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), in cooperation with the Albert R. Mann Library of Cornell University, makes both reports and data sets from the USDA Economics and Statistics System available via the Internet.
• USGS online publication: Spatial Data in Geographic Information System Format on Agricultural Chemical Use, Land Use, and Cropping Practices in the United States.
• USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station The USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station Web site offers the largest known collection of on-line publications related to forestry research. This well designed site presents the work of over 100 scientists who conduct research on forest resources, ecosystems, wildlife, and environmental quality in the Southern United States. Query the publications database, view on-line database and interact with some of the best and brightest of forest research.

Endangered Species

• The Endangered Species Program page from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service contains links to listed and candidate species data and information, along with the Endangered Species Act and regulatory information.
• Envirolink's Endangered Species Page offers an interactive map showing distribution of endangered species, and information on Federal and International regulations, policies, and treaties.

Energy

• The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology page, Solstice, provides full text searches of all of their documents and contains links to various databases.

Hydrologic

• United States NWIS-W Data Retrieval The U.S.Geological Survey allows users to download historic station data and also provides realtime data access.
• USGS Hydro-Climatic Data Network (HCDN) Streamflow Data Set , an on-line version of a compact disk with streamflow, watershed characteristics, and station descriptions from 1874-1988.
• Agricultural Research Service (ARS) - Hydrology Lab The ARS Water Data Base is a collection of precipitation and streamflow data from small agricultural watersheds in the United States. This national archive of variable time-series readings for precipitation and runoff contains sufficient detail to reconstruct storm hydrographs and hyetographs.
• NOAA's National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) maintains links to physical, chemical, and biological oceanographic data, international oceanographic data sets, a bulletin board service, reports, links to other oceanographic data, and more.
• The Seepage/Groundwater Modeling Software home page of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) allows interested parties to create and edit links to web pages that describe seepage/groundwater modeling software (links can be removed by ASCE) and provides links to other information on discussion groups, research labs, technical papers and much more.
• National Water Conditions. USGS maps and data tables, plus graphs, for water data stations in the US.
• Water Use . USGS National information on water use including data tables with breakout to State level.
• Water Resources Data. USGS quantity and quality data for regions of the nation.

Meteorologic

• World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. Contains links to World Weather Watch distributed databases, national weather services of some WMO Members, and more.
• LDEO Climate Group Home Page Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University
• NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) offers links to data, technical reports, research programs, and an interactive visualization of climate data, and more.
• The World-Wide Web Virtual Library: Meteorology contains worldwide links to meterological data and information.

Pollution Prevention

• DENIX on the Web! Defense Environmental Network & Information Exchange, DoD site designed especially for DoD personnel, but also provides the general public with access to environmental legislative, compliance, restoration, cleanup, safety & occupational health, security, and DoD guidance information. Information on DENIX is updated daily.
• Center of Excellence for Sustainable Development A project of the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy helps communities design and implement innovative strategies that enhance the local economy as well as the local environment and quality of life. Includes access to a "tool kit" of sustainable information including manuals, workbooks, data bases, case studies and model codes and ordinances.
• The UCLA Center for Clean Technology (CCT) brings together engineering and applied science research programs in: pollution prevention, combustion and air toxics, water and wastewater treatment, intermedia transport and fate of chemicals in the environment, remediation and restoration, and the Center for Risk Reduction, which builds upon the work of the program on Risk and Systems Analysis for the Control of Toxics (RSACT).
• Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) The EPA is now providing data from the Toxic Release Inventory in ARC/INFO geographic information system export file format.

Socio-economic

• The U.S. Census Bureau offers access to their socio-economic databases allowing the user to create customized tallies and map displays of census data including roads, federal lands, and other information. This site also contains links to other sources of socio-economic data and information.
• TradeWave Census Data Page is a reference and multi-disciplinary listing of links to raw and evaluated socio-economic datasets.

Spatial

• The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Fifteen federal agencies make up the FGDC are developing the National Spatial Data Infrastructure in cooperation with organizations from state, local and tribal governments, the academic community, and the private sector.

• Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center. This USGS Center holds the world's largest collection of space and aircraft acquired imagery of the Earth.
• National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse. The USGS segment allows a Wais search of their available GIS digital layers.
• USGS online publication: Spatial Data in Geographic Information System Format on Agricultural Chemical Use, Land Use, and Cropping Practices in the United States.
• Geographical Information Systems (GIS) WWW Resource List is a source of world-wide links. Some Remote Sensing servers are also included, but generally only where these have a GIS interest.
• The World-Wide Web Virtual Library: Remote Sensing contains worldwide links to remote sensing data and information.

Wetlands

• National Wetlands Inventory (NWI), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has map data, species information, a searchable wetlands bibliography, and more.

• The Environmental Finance Program EPA program to assist communities in their search for creative approaches to funding their environmental projects.
• Environmental Indicators Home Page provided by EPA there are links to data aggregated Nationally, or by State, County, or Zip Code.
• The National Association of State Information Resource Executives (NASIRE) StateSearch service provides links, by State, to web pages dealing with energy, environment and natural resources. The StateSearch page also provides links to State information in many other categories.

• San Francisco Bay Area Regional Database (BARD). BARD's goal is to make it convenient to acquire USGS digital data for the San Francisco Bay Area. Data is available in several native formats and also, for the convenience of many users, in Arc/Info export format.

International

• The World-Wide Web Virtual Library: United Nations and other international organizations contains links to WWW, gopher, and other internet sources for organizations worldwide.
• Global Resource Information Database, a part of the United Nations Environment Programme, provides access to the extensive data archive of satellite imagery housed at the EROS Data Center. The primary database development activities are land cover characterization, digital elevation mapping, and environmental change analysis. This link is to GRID-Sioux Falls located in South Dakota and there you will find information to access other GRID Centers.
• USGS EDC Global Land Information System (GLIS)is an interactive computer system developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for scientists seeking sources of information about the Earth's land surfaces on a regional, continental, and global scale.
• Australia...... Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO)
• Canada...... Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) has established a public registry system for all environmental impact analysis conducted by the Canadian Federal government. Also includes links to environmental assesment law, policy, and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
• Canada......The National Atlas Information Service (NAIS) is responsible for the development and maintenance of an authoritative synthesis of the geography of Canada. Products, in both digital and conventional form, include base maps, geographical names and thematic maps that reflect the social, economic, environmental and cultural fabric of Canada. NAISMap allows you to view and manipulate National Atlas spatial data layers to construct maps.

• earthsystems.org The source for environmental information. A non-profit organization expressly dedicated to the advancement of environmental information and education to the world community.
• Envirofacts Warehouse (EPA), allows you to retrieve environmental information from EPA databases on Superfund sites, drinking water, toxic and air releases, hazardous waste, water discharge permits, and grants information. You can use this system to query database information and generate maps and reports.
• EPA's Storefront of Community Environmental Tools is a variety of internet resources, planning guides, mapping tools, data and other resources that EPA has to offer to communities.
• The National Technical Information Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce that gathers and markets scientific, technical and business- related information.
• The National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) is the hub of a national network to link U.S. companies with federal laboratories to convert government research into practical, commercially-relevant technology.
